As a result of this diversity -achieved mostly by battles and wars- we were left with this amazing heritage and an important historical memory.

Milazzo Sicily held a prominent place in ancient times due to its strategic position in the mirror on the Tyrrhenian Sea. Visitors can take a trip back in time, all the way to the eleventh century, exploring the Fortified Citadel (commonly called Milazzo Castle). In fact, when the territory came under Norman control, Alfonso of Aragon built a mighty wall characterized by circular towers.

The visit of Milazzo castle is a journey in the past that starts from the most recent architecture -the Spanish walls of the sixteenth century- and culminates in the historic Norman construction. Walking among towers and ramparts you can see small streets, trapdoors, slits, storm drains, gunboats, cisterns, a guillotine door, and secret passageways.

The Milazzo castle covers a surface of over seven hectares and represents the largest fortified citadel of Sicily. It stands on the top of the “Borgo” where the first weekend of each month is held an antiques market.
