We will start from your accommodation in Taormina, and after a short drive, we will get to Castelmola, which, with a little more than 1000 inhabitants, is recognized as one of the Most Beautiful Italian Villages. The town will welcome you in its square with the most amazing view of the Strait of Messina, mainland Italy, and the city of Taormina below.

The Castelmola Etna wine tour from Taormina starts from your accommodation located in Taormina or nearby areas. If your accommodation is in the pedestrian area of Taormina, we will set the most convenient meeting point.
After a drive of around 20 minutes we will reach the town of Castelmola. Here you will have time to explore the town, visiting the many ceramic stores, and if you are in good shape, also getting all the steps to the ruins of the ancient Castle from where you will enjoy a great view.
Taste a Sicilian Cannolo and sip the almond wine, a local treat of the area.
After a drive of about 1 h from Castelmola, we will reach one of the biggest wineries in the area. Here we will first embark on an interesting guided visit of the estate, led by a local worker who will be able to answer all your questions about the wine production. We will visit the fermentation area, learning about the peculiarity of this terroir and the effects of the lava soil on the final product. We can't miss the wine cellar, where the finest reserve wines age inside huge wooden barrels.
After the winery visit, we will finally reach the tasting room, where you will be welcomed by the first of 5 glasses of wine: a sparkling! After being accommodated at your reserved table, your tasting adventure will start, accompanied by a sommelier who will underline the characteristics of each wine you will taste: a white, a rosé, a red, and the passito (dessert wine). The wines will come paired with a selection of the best Sicilian appetizers and food. Before leaving, you can buy bottles of wine at the local wine shop or ship them back home, if interested.
At the end of the tour you will be dropped off in Taormina.

One of the main interests in the Etna wine tour from Taormina is to understand the strict regulations that the winemakers have to follow in order to have their products recognized by the Consortium of the Etna DCO wines. The lava becomes fertile after hundreds of years thanks to the erosion provided by the elements. Producers around Mt Etna have learnt how to grow the vines on the slopes, building terraces that make quite challenging to take care of the vineyards and harvesting.
