This harvest experience will make you travel in Sicily during the low season, and you will see how it can be surprising: colours, air, atmosphere, traditions, and celebrations make the island special and fascinating.
In the fall, the colors of the forests will paint wonderful landscapes for the lovers of nature and the earth fruits will be collected as well as the sweet grapes that are the source of our strong, sweet and tasty wines.
Our harvest experience will invite you to participate in the harvest shoulder-to-shoulder with a local farmer – Nino Crupi, that will share with you the secrets behind wine production.
The grapes that you will collect will be pressed and with the grape-must will produce the famous typical Sicilian “mostarda” that you will have as dessert after a simple lunch with “panini” and sausage.

With the harvest experience you are going to discover the steps of wine production with simple methods: the grapes were collected in small baskets and then were pressed by hand or with the feet in some areas.
This system was adopted by the ancient wine producers and is still used today in some parts of Sicily such as the small villages of Santo Stefano di Briga, where together with Nino, you will learn the secrets of the harvest and the devotion that stands behind vineyards and their grapes.
Harvest: The harvest experience in Sicily is comparable to a ritual in honour of nature, where the ground offers its products to the people. For sure Nino is a careful farmer, giving special attention to the soils of his cultivations and the cure of its plants. Before you will start collecting the grapes, he will explain the details of the activity proving you with baskets that will be useful during the transportation.
Pressing: A sensory experience, where you will follow the ancient process of wine production as the was done in origin: harvest in the vineyard, crushing of the grapes by hand and by winepress to obtain a sweet and flagrant wine-must.
Tasting: A good, healthy dessert will be made with the wine-must you will obtain and whose recipe will be shared by Nino: the wine “mostarda”.
Harvest: welcomed by your friendly host Nino, you will learn how to harvest as a local farmer, discovering simple but essential methods of this activity. It will be also an awesome opportunity to understand more about the Sicilian grapes used to produce our sweet and strong wines.
Your harvest experience in Sicily will start from the meeting point that we will establish together in advance. On the board of the bus, until we will reach the village of Santo Stefano Briga, in the province of Messina, our guide will provide you with historical information, tips and an overview of the experience.
Once arrived at our location, you will be welcomed by Nino the owner of the vineyard that will offer you all the details of the harvest and together you will start to collect the grapes that you will transform in a sweet wine-must, pressing them by hand.
Once you will have your wine-must done, you will learn how to prepare a wonderful simple natural dessert with genuine ingredients: wine-must, nuts, pistachio and cinnamon that you will taste after a good “panino con la salsiccia” – home bread and sausage accompanied by a glass of wine.
