This experience of Messina and Ganzirri lake will make you learn about the ancient fishing traditions of the nature reserve of the Strait of Messina. The swordfish Sicily fishing, introduced by the Greek colonizers, is still practiced in the Strait of Messina by local fishermen using a special wooden boat: the feluca. The saltwater lake of Ganzirri has special environmental conditions that make it the perfect place for migratory birds to stop along their routes from Africa. For this reason, it is a good spot to birdwatch cormorants, herons and many other specimens in the spring and fall seasons. Here is where traditional mussels farming and clams farming are operated by family businesses. During the day you will make the special experience of going on a traditional boat for a tour sailing the Pantano Grande: you will have the opportunity to meet the local fisherman, il cocciularo, explaining the traditional fishing techniques learnt by his own ancestors.
