Taormina walking tour with Greek Theater is one of the most requested Sicily day tours among our Messina shore excursions and tours from Messina port. It will let you experience the history of one of the Sicilian Greek colonies and its astonishing ancient Theatre, used as film set of many movies and TV series, such as the recent White Lotus Sicily show.
The day tour starts with a visit to Castelmola Sicily, a picturesque village situated just above Taormina. This tiny town is the perfect place to enjoy a beautiful setting and a wonderful outlook over the magnificent bay of Giardini Naxos and Mount Etna rising in the distance.
Then our journey continues with a Taormina walking tour, seeing the Aragonese style Porta Catania before a guided tour along the Corso Umberto, once part of the ancient Roman street Via Valeria. Stroll along this pretty, traffic-free street and enjoy a Taormina walking tour to the oldest churches and monuments of the town, as well as the most exclusive shops, restaurants and hotels, such as the famous San Domenico Palace and the newest White Lotus Sicily location.
Taste some typical Sicilian specialties and sweets at pastry and ice cream shops. As our other tours from Messina, the Taormina walking tour & Greek theatre starts from Messina Cruise Port or from Travel Agency Discover Messina Sicily, located in the city center. On request, a departure from your accommodation located in Messina area.
We are going to have a panoramic tour of the city. We will see the famous statue of the Virgin
Mary of the Letter, the Fountain of Neptune, the St. Francis Church and the Palace of Culture.
The first stop of our Taormina walking tour & Greek theatre is the beautiful village of Castelmola Sicily. Here we will spend about 1 hour visiting this medieval village where you will enjoy Piazza Sant’Antonio, the Cathedral, and the Castle, then our tour guide will let you taste the traditional almond wine in a local cafè.
During a guided Taormina walking tour in the main street Corso Umberto, you will visit Porta Catania the Cathedral of Taormina, April IX Square, and the clock tower, Corvaja Palace and Porta Messina, which marks the end of Corso Umberto. The final part of the Taormina walking tour will be the visit of the fascinating ancient theatre of Taormina, a masterpiece realized by Greeks and Roman in the beautiful panoramic scenery. At the end of the guided visit, you will have enough free time to visit the exclusive shops or to have lunch.
The day tour will end at the starting point. We share a goodbye, hoping to meet our guests back in Sicily soon.

Departure times are set according to the arrival and departure time of cruise ships based on the calendars that we know in advance. Return on time is 100% guaranted, and we wait for our guests to arrive if the ship is late disembarking.

A Must Book Experience
We had the best time on this tour! Our tour guide, Sara, was so friendly and so knowledgeable, I could listen to her talk for hours. We loved visiting Castelmola and Taormina. We even added a quick stop to see the astronomical clock in the town square which was really cool. She gave us a great tour of Taormina and even gave us a list of places/foods that we had to try while we were in Messina. I would 10000% book another tour with Sara again!
Worthwhile tour
A worthwhile tour to hear about the history & culture and to view the area from select viewpoints. Our guide was a lifelong resident who was as very knowledgeable, enthusiastic, and was easily understood. You’ll learn far more taking this stress free trip than trying to see the area on your own.

Both cities were lovely. The driver did a fantastic job navigating the tight turns and narrow
roads. And our guide, Mariarita, was fun and knowledgeable. Plus she treated us to
homemade cookies!
Great Small Group Excursion from the Cruise Port
We booked this as an excursion from the Cruise Port in Messina. VERY easy to find the tour guide and the bus, right off the boat. Sabrina was our guide and full of information and enthusiasm for her country. A small comfortable van took us WAY up the mountain to Castelmola first. This is a very small but beautiful town, and after a short intro to the town, we could wander on our own. Don’t miss the trek up the steps to the top of ruins – spectacular views, including Mt Etna! We then boarded the bus and went part way back down the mountain to Taormina. We had headsets which allowed us to hear Sabrina, and she did a great job keeping us all together despite the crowds. Several of us had opted for entrance into the Greek Amplitheater with Skip the Line access – much appreciated as the line for entrance was long. Sabrina escorted us on this tour, which included a brief film overview then the opportunity to walk around these ruins. We had approximately 1.5 hours then to wander and find lunch on our own, before heading back to Messina. On the bus, Sabrina described the famous Astrological Clock (Bell Tower) in Messina which puts on a show daily at 12pm. Since we were not there at that time, she encouraged us to google this event. We had roughly an hour left in Messina on our own before boarding the cruise ship. Very happy we took this tour!
