Feel the thrill of the Baroque style visiting Noto and Modica. These are two of the eight towns listed in the Unesco World Heritage Sites of Sicily identified as the late-baroque towns of Noto Valley.
Noto is our first destination. Here you can admire the huge “Royal Door” also known as Ferdinando’s Arch, realized in 1838 to welcome King Ferdinand II Bourbons. Along the main boulevard you can enjoy the beauty of its baroque palaces, till you will reach the majestic cathedral dedicated to San Nicolò. It is located at the top of a scenic staircase, that is itself a baroque masterpiece.
Second stop of this tour is Modica. Famous for its chocolate, Modica is a baroque gem: experience the baroque atmosphere of the precious buildings and churches like the majestic Duomo dedicated to Saint George with the wooden polyptych dating back the XV century. Catch the opportunity to taste the typical chocolate bars or pralines in local chocolateries, whose Aztec recipe arrived to the island after the Spaniards during the XVI century.
